Located in the vibrant heart of San Antonio’s Southtown neighborhood, Carriqui is a standout destination for those craving expertly crafted, upscale Mexican cuisine with a modern twist. At 239 E Grayson St, this restaurant offers a beautifully designed space that marries contemporary aesthetics with warm, inviting details—making it perfect for both intimate dinners and special celebrations.
Carriqui's menu is a thoughtful reinterpretation of classic Mexican dishes using high-quality, often unexpected ingredients. One must-try is the wagyu fajitas, celebrated by many patrons for their tender, richly marbled beef served with your choice of flour or corn tortillas, a true indulgence that lingers long after the last bite. The fried fish tacos are another crowd favorite, delivering a crispy exterior and juicy, flavorful fish that dance on the palate.
Beyond these, the corn cakes are a surprising delight—reminiscent of moist cornbread cupcakes topped with herb butter, they offer a comforting, rich texture that perfectly balances the menu’s bold flavors. Seafood lovers will appreciate the daily specials like the stuffed rainbow trout with crab meat finished with chimichurri sauce, a dish that speaks to the chef’s skill at balancing fresh ingredients and bold seasoning.
Carriqui’s cocktail list is equally impressive, featuring creative concoctions like the Flor De Elote and the Coatl Kiss, each priced around $14-$15 and designed to complement the robust menu. For those seeking sophisticated bubbles, the Laurent Perrier Champagne provides an elegant touch. Non-alcoholic options are thoughtfully crafted too, such as the refreshing Sparkling Cucumber Mint and the spicy, invigorating Spicy Piña—perfect for any palate.
The atmosphere is nothing short of exceptional. Reviewers frequently mention the care put into the restaurant’s design, which creates an ambience that feels both upscale and comfortable. Service is consistently praised for being prompt and attentive, with servers like Jerrel and Stephanie described as knowledgeable and genuinely caring—adding a personal touch that elevates the dining experience further.
Desserts at Carriqui are more than just an afterthought; they are an exquisite finale. Those lucky enough to try the flan or tres leches find them rich, smooth, and beautifully balanced, rounding out a meal that tantalizes the senses and soothes the soul.
Whether you are stopping by for a casual lunch near the Pearl or celebrating a milestone with family and friends, Carriqui delivers a memorable culinary journey. Its blend of inventive Mexican flavors, elegant presentation, and welcoming vibe ensure you’ll be eagerly anticipating your next visit before you even leave the table.
High end Mexican food with their own take on classic dishes. The food itself is high quality ingredients such as the wagyu fajitas (pictured) with your choice of flour or corn tortillas. We also had the fried fish tacos which were delicious. One nice surprise was the corn cakes. It was similar to a very moist cornbread cupcake with herb butter. Already looking forward to having these again. We were seating in the second building which is decorated very nice, but as it filled up it has terrible acoustics, so you have to shout at each other to speak. There is also a nice patio and bar outside that wasn’t being used during our weekday lunch visit. The staff was professional and attentive and made a positive experience. Highly recommend and will definitely go back when we want a unique twist on traditional Mexican food.
Enjoyed a lunch date at this beautiful restaurant near the Pearl. The Carriqui margarita was delicious. Husband liked the old fashion. The bbq nachos were a bit dry for my taste, as was the tortillas on the enchiladas. Husband liked his brisket meal - thought it was flavorful. Atmospheres and decor was beautiful. Service was very prompt. We paid for street side parking.
First of all, what a great looking restaurant. You can tell they really poured a lot of effort in design and layout. We were fortunate enough to be served by Jerrel and I hope you do too, he’s an excellent server. The menu is great, I was so torn on what to get but the special of the day sounded so good. It was stuffed Rainbow Trout (crab meat) topped with chimichurri sauce which was in a sauce possibly made by Jesus. It was outstanding! I also got a side of Brisket and chimichurri…if you haven’t tried brisket and chimichurri thank Al Frugoni when you do. It was perfect, passed the pull test and bend test, great smoke ring, and fat cap was perfectly rendered. My wife and her best friend got the fajitas and they were really good. We hoped they would be more tender but still very solid. The flavor made up for it. I tried two different whiskey cocktails. The first is what they call Texas Sun. They use Still Austin and a blend of liquors and fresh juice…this is a must try. The second was a Southern Ember. I liked them both a ton but I had to get another Texas Sun. I highly recommend this place! I’d be surprised if you aren’t happy.
Last night, I went to Carriqui with a party of two. We ordered Tuna Tostadas, Guacamole, Chicken Tortilla Soup, Birria, Flan, Tres Leches, and Margaritas. Tuna Tostadas – Lights out! Sprinkle some lemon on top, take a bite, and it’s just sooo good. The flavors are perfectly balanced. Easily a must-order. Birria – As someone who loves heavily seasoned food, I didn’t get a strong flavor kick from it, but the lamb was cooked beautifully. I’m glad I tried it! Tres Leches – The star of the night. Hands down the best Tres Leches I’ve ever had. I’ve only tasted this dessert in Charlotte, NC before, but this one? Perfect. I devoured the whole thing. Guacamole – So fresh, great texture. Flan – Good, but Tres Leches stole the show. (I’m also not a huge caramel fan, so I’m a little biased.) Chicken Tortilla Soup – This one didn’t do it for me. Margaritas – I really enjoyed these, they are so refreshing. Beyond the food, the ambiance was amazing. We sat outside, and everything—the music, weather, lighting—was chef’s kiss. Would definitely come back, especially for the Tuna Tostadas, Tres Leches, and Margaritas!
This was our second time here. The first time was to celebrate my daughter- in-law’s graduation. The service we received from Stephanie was EXCEPTIONAL!! The food was AMAZING! My husband was so impressed we went back for his birthday this weekend. 5/31. Our server Jerrell took very good care of us. To add to our already great experience the manager Mr. Allexis brought a variety of exquisite desserts to celebrate my husband. Every dessert was Exceptionally Delicious!! We felt so very special. Thank you Carriqui for making my husband’s birthday EXTRA SPECIAL! Carriqui is our new favorite place to dine. 10 out of 10!
Came here for my Dad's 76 birthday, it was our second time here. The menu has been changed up but it was just as good this time as the first. The food was very well prepared and full of flavor. The service and atmosphere were both excellent and this was a great area for us to have a little dinner celebration. Will come back when in the area again.
Bittersweet discovery: Carrique Just found Carrique and instantly fell in love—what a gem. The food was delicious, the service warm and attentive, and the vibe welcoming and relaxed. It’s my birthday month, and our waiter overheard us chatting about it. He surprised me by passing around a birthday card for the team to sign, then he and my friend sang “Happy Birthday” to me right at the table. Such a thoughtful, above-and-beyond gesture—it made the evening unforgettable. It’s such a bummer they’re going out of business on Sunday. Grateful I got to experience it, even briefly. If you can, stop by before they close and show them some love. Here’s hoping the team brings these flavors—and this kind of heart—back someday.
The experience overall was incredible. The food was delicious, the puffy tacos were exceptional! Service was excellent. However, our waiter was a little less personable than expected. Fortunately it was not a downfall to the restaurant and staff whatsoever! 10/10, recommend!
